Hello everybody, my name is Diep. I think my name too hard to call for somebody in the US. But I love my name because this name make me remember my homestead. I have a younger brother and a younger sister, but they still staying in Vietnam. My mom passed away ten years ago. They live together with my father. Absolutely, I was born in Vietnam. I live in a small city called SocTrang. I like to travel and love the beach. I do not know why I feel tired or a problem. I alway want to go to the beach. Then I can ignore the sad experience of the past week drifted out to sea. That was one of the reason I got married with the guy on O’ahu. After that, I moved to Hawaii in 2018. I think I start a new life in here.
Hi Diep! Welcome to class! Thanks for sharing with us. I love Hawaii for the same reason- the beach. I go to the beach whenever I can. I love swimming in the ocean and relaxing on the sand. I hope you learn a lot this semester and enjoy our class. See you in class!

Oh, I heard somethings about SocTrang, but I haven’t have a change going there yet. Maybe, later on my next Vietnam trip 🙂
I like the exprience makes yourself reducing your stress by walking around the beach. I do it sometimes at night to take some fresh-air and refresh my mind too 🙂

I’m glad to hear you know SocTrang. Where do you live in Vietnam? My hometown hasn’t have a beach. If I want to go there. I must to take 2 or 3 hour. And I just go to travel to Vung Tau, or anywhere have a beach.

Hi, it’s your name, Diep pronounce like “deep”?
I kinda agree with you, your name is representative of you and your memory even your culture.
Even today There are many arguments about should you have an English name or not in China.

Yes, I do. Sometime I want change my name but I think that name stuck with me form childhood. If someone call my name do not correctly I just say that again and again. This like a short practice for somebody. After that, I think that help me has more a conversation.

I agree Joseph- I think the idea of students having two different names- an English name and their own name from their country of origin, is controversial. I think if you like your own name, you should be able to keep it and just teach people how to pronounce it. We can all learn something new from each other!
